What's Acupuncture Feel Like?
Most people enjoy treatment and find it very comfortable, restful, and relaxing. Some people report a mild tingling, heaviness, warmth, or a dull ache at the acupuncture point, which is a sensation of Qi moving.
Sterile, ultra-thin needles are used. You can't compare how they feel with a hollow injection/ hypodermic needle.
Generally sessions last about an hour, in which you'll rest comfortably or nap. After treatment, you can expect to feel less pain, more energy, and a heightened sense of well-being.
So How Does Acupuncture Work?
Good question. Placebo effect? It's more than that, my rescue dog totally got over her past abuse issues with one treatment - people are amazed at how friendly she is now.
It's based on ancient (originating 3000 years ago) healing observations, and refined over the years. The first of the Chinese classics, the Nei Ching, was recorded around 200 BC.
The classics share the wisdom of living in harmony with nature. It also shares their observations of the flow of the body's life energy (called Qi) through its twelve meridians, like rivers or defined pathways through the body.
Each acupuncture point along this path acts like a gate, to be opened or closed to balance and harmonize the flow of Qi through the entire body. Knowledgeable use of specific points relieves pain and promotes the body's ability to heal itself.
How Often Do I Have to Come?
Most patients experience a difference in how they feel with the very first treatment. However most need to follow up with about 5 weekly treatments to enhance and sustain the flow of Qi through your body. After that, we can space out your treatments to every other week, once a month and eventually once a season, depending on your body's response to treatment.
Disease is not separate from the body - it is your body functioning out of balance.
